The Starting Point of History in Hokkaido

The downtown in front of Hakodate Sta. is called Daimon, and continues as a bustling commercial center of Hakodate. Morning Market is adjacent to Hakodate Sta. It was born after the war as a black market, however, it has become one of the attractions now because the fresh seafood is eaten there.

Hakodate was the largest city in Hokkaido. Hakodate Sta. was the start point of railway in Hokkaido, and Seikan Ferry had been operated. So Hakodate became the busiest downtown in north of Tokyo. At opening of the Seikan Tunnel as the world's longest undersea tunnel,the Seikan ferry was abolished, the ferry has been exposed as a memorial.
